Welcome to Coordinates 09.20.01
As we get back to work this month, we’re going back to fundamentals.
Most of you likely don’t need this content, but I found myself after taking a Digital Marketing course last year thinking about marketing planning. Having now worked in CPG with large and small businesses, an agency, and an eCommerce company, I was getting confused with how to approach marketing after 20+ years given all the different models and approaches. I needed to step back and go back to the fundamentals.
I start with covering a Marketing Strategy Framework, and then in the next newsletter I’ll share an article on steps to build your Marketing Plan in today’s environment.
I hope you are able to get back into the swing of things this fall with a bit more ease. If you missed my article on how to take the crazy out of busy, here’s a link to that piece.
Frankly, the next few months will be crazy, so I hope you can find a way to focus your efforts on what’s most important to you. Often times, it takes going back to the basics, the essence of what’s important.
Be well,
Kathy

Marketing Strategy Framework: 5 Factors to Consider Before Building Your Marketing Plan
You really can’t do it all unless you have an endless budget, and few companies and marketers are that lucky. While you may be tempted to chase after each new shiny marketing channel, STOP! Pause before you act. You need to be discerning about what you implement, questioning the value of where you spend each dollar. And not all companies and brands are created equal. You need to customize your marketing approach, not assume all channels need to be used.
We offer a framework with 5 factors to consider when defining your marketing strategy and channels.

The Monthly Progress Practice – September
At the beginning of the year, we shared our Monthly Progress Practice. Progress happens through small actions, so we offer a monthly practice of small actions or micro-habits to inspire positive change this year.
Our guidance for September: Focus. As Gandhi said, “Action expresses priorities.” What is a priority and deserves your focus this month?
How will you make progress against your priorities? Maybe you want to focus on your team and making sure they’re doing okay right now. Maybe on a specific project. Maybe you want to shift the balance of focus between your professional and personal life. Maybe you want to express yourself differently as a leader.
Now what actions will you take to express that priority?
What’s one action you can take right now (do it within 5 seconds)?
What’s one action you’ll take today?
What’s one action you’ll take this week?
What actions will you take throughout the month?
“You are what you do, not what you say you’ll do.”
