2021 Forecast – The Year of The Great Rebuild & New Human Learning
At the end of an unprecedented year, we could all use good news. Yet, 2021 is going to bring both continued instability along with optimism and enthusiasm for building anew.
The pandemic isn’t over, and we’ll continue to live with the impact of its ups and downs. Yet, its shock has made the new decade’s turning point and what we need to address all the more clear and present. We collectively recognize that we are at a moment in history when we can choose to build a great future while facing and addressing our challenges head on.
What can that look like?
A new economic, social, and business model grounded in views and beliefs that creates sustainable growth for all. One that is built with systems thinking, considering all stakeholders, factoring in the long-term rather than short-term interests, while taking responsibility for the future. It should be built by correctly defining and understanding the problems we face and how our new world is being reshaped. Too often, leaders who mold our world are not focused on solving the right problems, nor identify problems at their root. Instead of tackling issues head on and being willing to do the hard work to solve them, leaders push aside complexity with academic answers. Not so going into 2021, after a year where the cracks in the system became all the more visible and real, demanding action.
Thus, 2021 is going to bring more change, and change is hard.
A new social fabric will emerge, built upon the changes people endured last year. While people may mourn what once was comfortable and known, new ways of life will set in and perhaps all for the better.
The year isn’t going to be easy or comfortable.
It will demand hard work by industry and by we humans to learn and adapt. It’s time to muster up more resilience, building on what we amassed in 2020. However, it will be in service to a significant turning point. We will move towards a future that is smart, regenerative, inclusive, and works for us all.
Why It Matters:
Because we humans impact each other, whether we want to acknowledge it or not. We shape each other’s worlds. We can rebuild with a narrow view and with narrow goals. Or, we can rebuild with a broad, long-term, systems-thinking view considering all stakeholders and building a world and an economy that works for all.
What kind of future do you want to create? What kind of future do you want to be a part of? What responsibility are you willing to take on to craft a better world that works for all of us?
What You Should Do:
Build more organizational resilience
Deploy scenario planning
Invest in innovation capabilities
Develop human-centric skills
Lead with responsibility and respect
Become change makers
Be of service
