2021 Forecast – Leading the New Way
As the Economy is demanding to be reshaped, business and industry are being called to be the changemakers.
Companies and organizations will be the ones to do the hard work, especially in the U.S. where governments aren’t functioning well and often can’t make progress. Shareholders, asset managers, employees, and consumers will all hold companies accountable. These stakeholders won't let companies off the hook. In a sense, businesses will be required to become purpose-driven and address macro, systemic problems rather than simply focus on delivering topline and bottom line results.
Why? Companies can get around the dysfunction associated with democracy and politics, and they can’t ignore all the challenges at their doorstep from climate change to diversity, equity, and inclusion. They must think about these externalities, while also considering the impact of their own business decisions. They are more likely to held accountable than our government, our politicians, and even citizens and individuals.
Thus, businesses will lead the new way and do the hard work for all our benefit. Or, the winners will be those companies that do. It will be hard and thankless work, because people don’t like change. However, people will return and reward businesses when they experience the results and can see how the changes are beneficial and create a better future.
